PwC Australia is rolling out a set of actions intended to weave inclusion into the way AI is built, implemented and applied across everyday work and core operations.

The company has signed up to three measures that seek to encourage gender-balanced and diverse AI outputs, while limiting the risk of biases and “outdated assumptions”.

PwC Australia CEO Kevin Burrowes said: “Artificial intelligence draws on historical data. Without the right checks and human judgement, there is a risk prejudiced AI outcomes are repeated at scale across operations, decision-making, systems and services.”

The initiatives form part of a programme led by Champions of Change in partnership with the Women’s Leadership Institute Australia.

Champions of Change is a coalition of CEOs and senior leaders, while the Women’s Leadership Institute Australia focuses on increasing the number and influence of women in leadership.

PwC Australia said it is adopting the Inclusive AI pledge, with Burrowes signing alongside other Champions of Change participants and their teams.

The company is also introducing an Inclusive AI Prompt through its internal generative AI platform, ChatPwC.

It plans to publish the Inclusive AI Prompt as a standard tool on ChatPwC to help guide users towards more inclusive responses.

In addition, PwC Australia will run a company‑wide engagement campaign.

The campaign is intended to demonstrate how inclusive AI can work in practice, encourage broad uptake among staff and underline that fairness in AI is a shared obligation.

Burrowes added: “I have been using the Inclusive AI Prompt regularly in my own work and am super impressed with how it delivers gender-neutral outputs and explains the changes it makes based on key criteria.”

PwC Australia said its support for the Inclusive AI Pledge and Inclusive AI Prompt builds on existing work to examine how different groups access and benefit from AI tools.

That work is centred on achieving fair and equitable outcomes as AI adoption accelerates.

According to the company, combining a leadership pledge with a practical prompt and broad internal engagement is intended to foster a more inclusive and trusted approach to AI.

PwC Australia said this direction is consistent with its Inclusion 2030 Strategy and its Responsible AI framework, including the Trust by Design model, which is aimed at supporting more consistent, transparent and inclusive results in AI‑assisted work.

PwC recently expanded its partnership with Anthropic to embed the Claude AI platform more deeply across its technology.
