After presenting the different aspirations and calls for actions part of the Agenda 2063, Zuma made the link with the accountancy profession. “Accountancy is very important, as it is present in everything i have just talked about,” she said. “So I hope you will discuss [during the course of the congress] how as accountant you will contribute to this agenda.”

Previously, IFAC president Rachel Grimes highlighted to the audience the link between a strong accountancy profession and growing and sustainable economies. Similarly, Pan African Federation of Accountants (PAFA) president Asmaa Resmouki highlighted that in this year’s edition of congress the issue of empowering women professionals will be tackled in a plenary session, when two years ago it was tackled in a concurrent session.

ACOA17 will take place all of this week gathering 1,200 accountants from across the continent (including 500 from outside Uganda). This latest edition of the congress is hosted by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Uganda (ICPAU) and PAFA under the theme: “accountancy & accountability: transforming Africa’s Economies.”
