Baker Tilly International member firm BlumShapiro, based at West Hartford, Connecticut, merged with Sullivan & Company located in Providence, Rhode Island, at the beginning of the year.
The merger establishes BlumShapiro as one of the US’s top 50 accounting firms by size, with 340 employees throughout New England.
The merged firm retains the BlumShapiro brand, adding offices in West Hartford and Shelton in Connecticut, Boston and Rockland in Massachusetts, and Providence, RI.
Sullivan & Company office managing partner Timothy Sullivan said: "This will be a seamless transition, and together the combined firms can best offer the resources and specialties of a large firm coupled with the responsiveness of a local firm, giving us a distinct market advantage."
Meanwhile, Philadelphia-based Baker Tilly International member firm ParenteBeard is combining practices with Connecticut healthcare management consulting firm Presscott Associates, effective from the start of 2013.
Presscott Associates adds two partners and nine staff members to the combination. Presscott has retained its name and is operating as a division of ParenteBeard, expanding the combined firm’s market reach into Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Connecticut, Maryland and Texas.

Presscott provides specialised services to healthcare clients including hospitals, physicians, integrated delivery systems, national and regional health plans, and life sciences and technology companies. Specialised healthcare services include economic value analysis, revenue chain management and strategic relationship management.
A Presscott statement said: "The combination provides an opportunity to extend our established presence in the expanded service area. We’ll be able to provide our healthcare clients a one-stop service through ParenteBeard’s recognised accounting and advisory solutions."
