The Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) and the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) have extended their memorandum of understanding (MoU) for three years.

The agreement, signed by IIA president and CEO Anthony Pugliese and ACCA chief executive Helen Brand, aims to enhance governance practices, career development, and public interest service for the next three years.

Pugliese said: “We are excited to extend our partnership with ACCA. This collaboration allows us to leverage our combined expertise to better serve our members and the broader profession. Together, we can continue to drive significant progress in internal auditing and governance to advance the public interest.”

Under the renewed MoU, the IIA and ACCA will concentrate on joint research across areas such as cybersecurity, technology evolution, diversity, and ESG issues.

Their collaboration has previously resulted in a report on the impact of business transformation on internal controls.

In the coming year, they plan to publish new research on applying internal control concepts to sustainability and non-financial data.

Brand added: “Over the years we’ve formed a strong relationship with The IIA which continues to benefit both memberships.

“I am delighted this will continue and look forward to building on what we’ve achieved with collaboration on shared research, events and other initiatives.”

The two organisations will also advocate for each other’s qualifications and use their channels to promote awareness and support for their initiatives and programmes.

The IIA, as part of the collaboration, will maintain its offer for ACCA members to enhance their internal audit skills by taking a challenge exam for the designation of Certified Internal Auditor (CIA).

Through this pathway, over 5,000 ACCA members have obtained their CIA credential from 2015.

In October 2024, ACCA and the Global Growth Institute’s World Class Manager (WCM) formed a global partnership to provide ACCA’s members exclusive access to the improved WCM leadership programme globally. The programme focuses on bolstering their leadership skills and professional development.
