Modus has hired two former Grant Thornton audit executives as it expands its AI-native approach to audit delivery.
The platform has appointed Matt Van Buren as director of Audit Transformation and Jim Burton as an advisor.

Both previously worked at Grant Thornton, where Burton served as chief auditor and Van Buren led audit transformation, reporting to him.
Modus co-founder and CEO Arush Jain said: “We started Modus to deliver the highest-quality audit in a fraction of the time.

Founded in 2025, Modus said it is positioning its platform as an alternative to traditional audit methods based on manual data collection and sampling.
The company said its approach uses AI agents to analyse an organisation’s full general ledger rather than a sample. Modus said this is designed to help identify risks that may not be detected through manual procedures and to allow auditors to focus on judgement-based work.
The business added that its methodology aligns with auditing standards generally accepted in the US and can be adapted for international standards.
Earlier this year, Modus raised $85m in Seed and Series A funding rounds to support the development of its platform.

Modus added it is hiring across audit and engineering roles.
