Effective from 11 May 2026, O’Neill’s responsibilities span the full life cycle of property businesses and assets, covering structuring, transactions, ongoing tax compliance and long-term tax planning.
HaysMac partner and property head Jake Pearlman said: “The property sector continues to face increasing complexity, from evolving tax legislation to heightened scrutiny around transactions and structures.
“Ben’s experience advising UK REITs [real estate investment trusts] and property‑focused businesses across the market will be invaluable to our clients, and his arrival further strengthens our ability to support them through both day‑to‑day challenges and major strategic decisions.”
O’Neill has 14 years of specialist tax experience advising real estate clients in the UK and overseas.
His background includes work with UK REITs and complex property deals, supporting organisations ranging from FTSE 100 companies to privately owned developers.
Earlier in his career, O’Neill spent the majority of his time at a ‘Big Four’ practice within its real estate tax team.
He also worked at M7 Real Estate as its first external tax recruit.
O’Neill said: “I am really looking forward to joining HaysMac.
“The firm has a strong reputation in both corporate and real estate tax, and I have been impressed by its collaborative culture and clear sense of purpose.
“It is an exciting time to be joining as the firm continues to grow and invest in its people and proposition.”
In March this year, HaysMac appointed Phil Clayton as a partner in its private client tax team.
