Alvarez & Marsal Tax (A&M Tax), an affiliate of global professional services firm Alvarez & Marsal (A&M), has appointed Howard Steinberg as managing director and head of global restructuring tax services.

Howard Steinberg has experience in both in-court and out-of-court restructurings.

In the new role, Steinberg will lead the company’s global restructuring tax practice, meeting increasing client demand.

Steinberg said: “A multi-year restructuring cycle is likely, given the high levels of corporate leverage, elevated interest rates, disruptive technological innovation and geopolitical risks.

“A&M’s respected restructuring tax capabilities, combined with its operational heritage, integrated platform and freedom from audit conflicts, well positions the firm to lead clients through the complex restructuring cycles in the years to come.”

Steinberg’s career spans advising on several of the US’s most complex bankruptcies. His expertise encompassing working with debtor companies and creditor groups on complex restructurings, as well as mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Alvarez & Marsal Tax, Steinberg had a 33-year tenure at KPMG, culminating in his role as the Global Head of Restructuring, Tax and Legal.

He also led the M&A Tax division as a partner for KPMG US.

Following his time at KPMG, Steinberg served as managing director and global head of tax restructuring at Houlihan Lokey, where he was instrumental in launching and co-leading the firm’s clean energy tax credit brokerage and financing practice.

Steinberg is a licensed CPA in New York and a certified insolvency and restructuring advisor.
