RSM US has announced the rebranding of its annual innovation programme, now called RSM NextWave.

This initiative is part of RSM’s strategy of leveraging AI and digital innovation to provide future-ready client services.

The firm is investing $1bn over three years to accelerate its AI strategy and integrate intelligent automation across operations.

RSM NextWave, formerly known as the Innovation Challenge, aims to incorporate agentic AI, which autonomously executes complex tasks alongside humans, into its business processes.

The firm stated that this move reflects its dedication to human-centred innovation and delivering measurable impacts for both employees and clients.

RSM US enterprise digital leader and partner Sergio de la Fe said: “NextWave is a reflection of RSM’s deep commitment to AI and our broader digital vision.

“This initiative represents our belief that bold ideas—no matter where they originate—can redefine our firm and set new standards for the industry. We’re not just preparing for the future—we’re building it, together.”

The 2025 theme, “The NextWave of Service: Intelligent, Intuitive, AI-enabled,” highlights the transformative role of AI and automation in professional services. RSM NextWave seeks to develop scalable solutions that integrate these technologies into the firm’s delivery models, involving participation from the US, Canada, El Salvador, and India.

Emphasising the programme’s role in empowering employees, RSM US innovation leader Alan Atwell said, “At RSM, innovation means equipping our people to lead in a world transformed by AI. NextWave challenges teams to think creatively, evaluate and prototype quickly and turn vision into action. It empowers everyone to drive change—and to reimagine how we serve the market.”

The programme encourages teams to ideate, test prototypes, and prepare pitches, culminating in a December event where finalist teams present their ideas to RSM leaders.

The winning team will receive individual recognition, and the RSM US Foundation will donate $40,000 to a charity of their choice, aligning with the foundation’s mission of nurturing future middle market leaders. Since its launch in 2018, RSM’s innovation programme has evolved into a global competition with more than 2,000 participants and more than 300 prototypes developed.

RSM NextWave is a platform for transformation, collaboration, and inclusive problem-solving. Employees are encouraged to engage by supporting teams, attending learning sessions, and contributing to discussions shaping the firm’s digital future.
