Becker, currently the national managing principal of tax, is stated to have been instrumental in doubling the size of BDO USA’s tax practice since 2019, the firm highlighted.
BDO USA chair of the Board of Directors Natalie Kotlyar said: “I am pleased to announce Matt’s ratification as CEO-elect and steward of the next chapter of BDO’s success. Matt is a trusted leader who has earned our confidence to carry forward the firm’s vision and people-first culture. At the same time, his agile and innovative leadership approach will position BDO to embrace the changes necessary to remain at the forefront of an evolving profession.”
Becker’s tenure at BDO began in 2002, and he became a tax partner in 2005 before taking on his current role in 2019.
His leadership experience includes a five-year stint as chair of BDO USA’s Board of Directors, contributing to the firm’s governance and strategic direction.

By GlobalDataBDO states that his track record of leadership positions and his influential role in key decisions, such as the introduction of an employee stock ownership plan and strategic partnerships, have been pivotal for the firm.
Becker said: “It is a genuine honour to have the support of my peers and follow in the footsteps of Wayne’s transformational leadership. BDO has experienced exponential growth over Wayne’s tenure due to his steadfast focus on our people and commitment to providing exceptional service to our clients. Continuity in vision and purpose built BDO’s culture, and I intend to lead with that same approach.”
Berson, who has led BDO USA since 2012, has overseen the firm’s strategy that helped annual revenue grow from $618m to around $3bn.
He attributes this to a strategic focus on people, purpose, and culture that has informed each business decision.
Under his leadership, BDO USA has completed more than 70 expansions, integrating teams and organisations aligned with the firm’s values, thus maintaining a majority of organic growth.
Berson is also said to have been instrumental in launching initiatives like the adoption of an ESOP and a human-centred approach to AI. He will continue his involvement with BDO USA and BDO International’s boards until his retirement.
The unanimous nomination by BDO USA’s Board of Directors and subsequent ratification of Becker as the next CEO followed a six-week vetting process. This included meetings with BDO principals nationwide.
The transition to Becker’s leadership will be supported by a year-long period of collaboration with Berson for handover of responsibilities.
Earlier in May 2025, BDO USA launched an AI strategy to enhance the strategic capabilities of its workforce and clients.
