KPMG has introduced an AI-based assistant aimed at reshaping the way legal entity controllers and accounting analysts manage month-end closing activities.
The assistant, dubbed KPMG Ignite Financial Close Companion, is built on Google Cloud’s Gemini Enterprise and embedded within the Workday platform.
Access deeper industry intelligence
Experience unmatched clarity with a single platform that combines unique data, AI, and human expertise.
It is designed to take on repetitive accounting work, review and interpret financial information, locate irregularities and flag items that may require attention.
The partners described the model as a type of “digital teammate” in which AI systems operate alongside finance staff to deliver a “more connected, intelligent financial reporting system”.
KPMG LLP Workday Platform leader Brian Anderson said: “As organisations face pressure for faster, more efficient financial reporting, the need for a streamlined and automated financial close is critical.
“By harnessing the power of Gemini Enterprise and integrating seamlessly with Workday, the agent directly addresses these challenges and not only enhances efficiency and accuracy but also saves valuable time for accountants.
“This collaboration allows finance teams to close faster with greater confidence while freeing professionals to focus on higher-impact strategic work.”
According to KPMG, the Financial Close Companion reflects an ecosystem approach that combines its finance and AI experience with Workday’s human resources and finance platform and Google Cloud’s AI capabilities.
The assistant can take natural-language instructions to initiate and carry out month-end close activities.
It is also designed to guide users through a sequenced close checklist aligned to established protocols, with the goal of preventing omissions and supporting compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
Google Cloud Global Partner Ecosystem president Kevin Ichhpurani said: “Our collaboration with KPMG and Workday is a prime example of the ‘digital teammate’ model in action.
“By grounding Gemini Enterprise in Workday’s environment, KPMG has built a sophisticated agent that offloads the most repetitive financial tasks, allowing accountants to focus on high-value strategic insights.”
The launch adds to KPMG’s expanding collaboration with Workday and Google Cloud, as AI agents are increasingly adopted in workflows to support the modern workforce.
Last month, KPMG Canada appointed Andrew Forde as its first AI research head.
