US audit, tax and advisory company KPMG LLP has established a Client Technology & Innovation (CT&I) unit to build AI-native enterprises and rapidly expand new commercial solutions.

Operational from 1 October, the group will concentrate on “innovation at the edge” to facilitate faster experimentation, concept incubation and enterprise scaling.

CT&I centralises the company’s broader technology network, incorporating strategic alliances, corporate venture capital ties and venture investments in early stage businesses.

Through this framework, the company plans to pursue further joint ventures across its network to support emerging enterprises and collaborate directly with clients on new product engineering. The unit will be led by Todd Lohr.

KPMG LLP chair and CEO Tim Walsh said: “We have successfully integrated AI into how we serve our clients, but the pace of disruption requires us to think differently and make faster, bigger bets.

“CT&I pairs the agility required to innovate with the talent, technology platforms, data and client relationships that differentiate KPMG.”

In addition to enterprise creation, CT&I will serve as an internal talent development programme.

The initiative aims to build managerial capability, technical literacy and AI expertise that staff can subsequently apply in senior roles as the professional services sector shifts.

KPMG also plans to broaden joint development initiatives with external technology organisations via the new division.

These partnerships will range from start-ups and advanced AI laboratories to established alliance partners such as Anthropic, Google Cloud, Microsoft, OpenAI and Databricks.

CT&I will also maintain oversight of KPMG’s enterprise-wide AI adoption programme.
