Commenting on the appointment, Prior said: “Through Azets, which has a compelling growth strategy, I look forward to supporting owner-managed businesses throughout the life cycle of their companies.”

Azets launched its Plymouth operation at Salt Quay House, 4 North East Quay, in July 2022 with two employees.

The office now employs more than 40 people, including eight in its tax advisory team.

The Plymouth office provides audit, business advisory, medical, payroll, tax and wealth management services.

Prior’s appointment follows further additions to the Plymouth audit team, which has recruited an assistant manager and a senior. A graduate is scheduled to join the office next month.

Azets’ Plymouth office managing partner Annette Stone said: “Azets continues to grow its tax advisory services to businesses and private clients, with Simon the latest specialist to join us.

“Simon brings more than 30 years of experience, having originally started life at HMRC before moving into a tax consultancy team supporting a firm that also acted for and assisted other firms of accountants.

“His principal areas at this time were dealing with tax enquiries, Construction Industry Scheme and employment/IR35 Status disputes. As part of his role, he also delivered training lectures to organisations such as ACCA and ICAS.

“His experience covers a wide range of private client through to corporate tax issues, including capital and land transaction taxes.”

Last month, Azets picked Jessica Lawrence as office managing partner in Leeds.
