Accounting practice BDO UK has scaled up its summer insight programme for young people, making more than 1,100 places available nationwide.

The company plans to host 20 in-person Insight Days over the summer, aimed at students aged 16 and above in schools, colleges and universities. The sessions are intended to give attendees a clearer view of potential careers in professional services.

Participants will spend time at their local BDO office, joining interactive workshops, employability training sessions, networking activities and social impact projects.

The initiative aligns with BDO’s agenda to widen access to the accountancy profession and support social mobility and diversity.

The move comes after BDO’s Young Minds 2026: The Unequal Advantage report found that many young people, particularly from lower socio-economic backgrounds, still lack work experience, careers support and professional contacts.

The Insight Days will be led by BDO’s first-year trainees from audit, consulting, deals, outsourcing, risk and tax teams.

BDO People, Culture and Purpose head Louise Sayers said: “The transition from education into the workplace can feel overwhelming for many young people, particularly those who may not have access to professional networks or workplace experience through family or personal connections.

“These Insight Days are designed to help young people better understand the opportunities available to them, build confidence and meet people who have already started their careers in the profession.”

For the past five years, BDO has run targeted insight schemes, including its Explore BDO and Black Heritage programmes, as part of its focus on diversity and social mobility. More than 250 young people have taken part in these initiatives so far, with in excess of 200 places being offered in the latest intake.

This year’s Insight Days are scheduled between 7 July and 31 July.

Last month, BDO selected Syreeta Brown as an independent non executive.
