Abacus Worldwide, an international association of independent accounting, consulting and legal firms, has named Tiat Jin (TJ) Ooi as its new regional director.
Based in Singapore, Ooi will oversee member engagement across the Asia-Pacific (APAC) region and provide additional support to member companies in the Middle East and Africa (MEA).

His responsibilities include strengthening relationships with companies, promoting collaboration between members and ensuring they receive support that reflects regional dynamics.
Ooi will also manage the association’s four technical interest groups, which meet quarterly to discuss specialist issues in tax, law, mergers and acquisitions and audit.
Abacus Worldwide president and CEO Julio Gabay said: “TJ joins us at an important point in Abacus Worldwide’s development, as recent growth has been strongest in the regions he will oversee.

By GlobalDataOoi also leads Curated Connectors, a consultancy through which he has worked with organisations including the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA), the Asian Development Bank and the Mekong Institute.
His collaboration with ERIA involved engaging thousands of regional stakeholders from the entrepreneurial, start-up and innovation community, contributing to the launch in 2022 of the E-S-I Knowledge Lab, a regional initiative aimed at fostering ecosystem collaboration and knowledge sharing.
Overall, Ooi has more than 20 years of leadership experience spanning association management, international trade and business operations.
Commenting on the appointment, Ooi said: “Joining Abacus Worldwide represents an exciting new chapter for me.
“I have spent much of my career supporting associations and their members, and I am looking forward to bringing that experience into the accounting and legal space.”
