The new capability is designed to handle parts of the tax return preparation process before a professional review. It uses prior-year information and current source documents to prepare returns, calculate results, and identify exceptions requiring attention.

According to Wolters Kluwer, the feature aims to help tax firms increase the number of returns ready for review while retaining professional oversight of tax decisions and final approvals.

Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting US Professional Market executive vice president and segment leader Cathy Rowe said: “CCH Axcess is the agentic platform for tax and accounting, redefining the experience for both professionals and their clients.

“Agentic tax preparation marks a significant shift in how tax work gets done. It helps firms create more capacity without sacrificing quality or control, so professionals can focus their expertise where it matters most.”

The agentic tax preparation capability in CCH Axcess Tax is intended to coordinate work across several stages of a Form 1040 return.

It can identify expected documents and missing information, classify documents, and extract supported tax data.

The system can also map information into the tax return, calculate results, and present diagnostics, review findings, and exceptions.

Calculated amounts can be linked to supporting evidence, while decisions can be recorded and workpapers generated for handoff.

The company added that tax professionals remain responsible for reviewing returns, resolving issues that require judgment, and approving the final filing.
