Larking Gowen Corporate head Charlie Savory said: “James has been an integral part of the corporate division and has played a key role in its growth across Suffolk and Essex.
“He’ll now lead the expansion of our audit and advisory services from our Colchester office over the coming months.”
Nichols promotion is effective from 1 April 2026, the company said.
Larking Gowen managing partner Julie Grimmer said: “It gives me great pleasure to welcome James to the partnership. It is always great to see one of our existing team making the progression to partnership.
“James’ promotion continues to illustrate our people remain at the heart of everything we do. It reflects our continued succession planning and long-term commitment to this region.
“We remain committed to building long term relationships which deliver real value to our clients and to this region. I, along with all existing partners in the business wish James all the very best in his new role.”
The promotion follows another recent change in the firm’s senior ranks, with the appointment of Chris Maher as partner.
Maher is based in the Ipswich office within the tax team.
Maher brings over 20 years’ experience advising high net worth individuals, entrepreneurs and business owners on complex tax issues, and will concentrate on providing tailored tax advisory support to clients across East Anglia.
