The accounting profession is approaching a significant milestone with the introduction of IFRS 18 – Presentation and Disclosure in Financial Statements, issued by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB) and effective for annual reporting periods beginning on or after 1 January 2027. IFRS 18 replaces IAS 1 and introduces important enhancements to the presentation and disclosure of financial information, with the objective of improving transparency, consistency, comparability, and decision-usefulness for financial statement users.
The standard introduces several key changes, including a new structure for the Statement of Profit or Loss, mandatory performance subtotals, Management-Defined Performance Measures (MPMs), enhanced aggregation and disaggregation requirements, and improved presentation and disclosure guidance. These changes will impact not only financial statement preparers but also auditors, regulators, investors, and other stakeholders.
At PA Global, we recognize the importance of early preparation and proactive implementation. Over the past months, we have been actively studying the standard, analyzing its requirements, developing practical implementation guidance and training toolkit to ensure PA teams are fully prepared for Day One adoption. Our objective is to remain at the forefront of professional excellence while supporting our member firms and the wider accounting community throughout this transition.
Knowledge sharing and professional development are central to PA Global’s commitment to supporting the profession. Through our Knowledge Hub, we have therefore launched a comprehensive IFRS 18 awareness initiative that brings together technical guidance, practical insights, and illustrative examples to make the new requirements easier to understand and apply. The initiative addresses the major areas of change introduced by IFRS 18, from the new presentation of the Statement of Profit or Loss and mandatory subtotals to Management-Defined Performance Measures (MPMs), aggregation and disaggregation, disclosure considerations, and implementation challenges. By continuously expanding these resources, we aim to provide accountants, auditors, finance professionals, and preparers with a practical source of knowledge that supports their understanding and readiness as the 2027, effective date approaches.
As always, PA Global strives to stay one step ahead, embracing new standards and developments to maintain the highest levels of excellence, precision, reliability, and professional leadership in the accounting and auditing profession.
