He succeeds Matthew White, who has served the maximum two four-year terms as senior partner.

Henderson will also become BDO UK’s international liaison partner, representing the company within BDO’s $11bn (€9.79bn) global network.

In his new position, Henderson will chair BDO’s Oversight Board, the company’s highest governance body.

The board is responsible for governance and oversight across the $1.3bn (£1bn) accountancy and business advisory organisation.

He will work with BDO’s four independent non-executive members, who will support decision-making at the firm.

Henderson has more than 30 years of experience auditing public and private multinational companies. He has also held several leadership and governance roles at BDO.

Before taking up his new position, he led BDO UK’s US audit team and served as UK coordinating partner for BDO’s US member company.

Henderson said: “Over the past few months, I have spent a great deal of time working alongside Matt White, listening and learning, and bringing even greater clarity to my purpose and priorities as I take on the role.

“The profession continues to change rapidly, driven by evolving regulation, new operating models and advances in technology, alongside growing expectations around quality, trust, sustainability and serving the public interest.

“Strong and effective governance is critical in helping us navigate this evolving landscape and make the right decisions for our people and the long-term success of our business.

“I am looking forward to working with our partners, people and governance bodies as we continue to build on the strong foundations already in place.”
