Accountancy and advisory practice Azets has broadened its audit and tax offering in the North East of the UK with four new appointments across its Teesside and Newcastle offices.

In Teesside, the company has brought in two new audit professionals. Yasmin Bambrough has joined as an audit senior from PwC, alongside Rebecca Hutton, who has been appointed audit associate after previously working at Clive Owen.

The company has also strengthened its Newcastle tax team with two appointments.

Stuart Stephenson has joined as corporate tax director, bringing more than nine years’ experience at KPMG. Jonathan Kennedy has been hired as a research and development associate director, joining from S&W, and will be based at Azets’ Newcastle office.

Azets now employs more than 300 people and has 16 partners across the North East, delivering accountancy, tax and advisory services to businesses and private clients.

Azets North East partner and head Brian Laidlaw said: “Yasmin, Rebecca, Stuart and Jonathan join us at an exciting time for the business as we continue to grow clients amid increasing compliance demands for SMEs [small and medium-sized enterprises] and individuals here in the North East.

“Azets provides independent insights that bolster compliance, governance and long-term growth.

“Our team of experienced professionals combine technical expertise, sector knowledge and technology-enabled processes to deliver high-quality auditing services that go beyond compliance, providing practical insights that clients can act on.”

Within the Newcastle office, Daniel Ward has been promoted from associate director to director, audit & assurance. He joined Azets in 2022 after leaving KPMG.

These changes follow a round of 28 promotions announced last autumn across the company’s Durham, Newcastle and Teesside offices.

Azets has also announced the creation of 15 new roles at its Stockport office.

The site is being developed as a hub for Making Tax Digital (MTD) services for both businesses and individuals. Azets said the additional posts are being created in response to HMRC’s rollout of MTD for income tax.
