Accounting giant Deloitte has appointed Garry Tetley as the new head of tax for its operations in Scotland.

Tetley, who has been with the company since 1997, will manage a team of 130 tax professionals in Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

He succeeds Douglas Farish, who has led the Scottish tax team for the past five years.

As a partner since 2011, Tetley has been responsible for Deloitte’s private markets practice in Scotland, which caters to privately owned businesses across various sectors including technology, financial services, energy and industrials.

Tetley’s work has centred on assisting businesses with international growth, corporate restructuring, management incentives and transactions.

He has provided guidance to several rapidly expanding companies including those involved in transactions valued at more than $1bn (£738.12m).

Tetley said: “I am very proud to take on this role at a time of such opportunity for our team. Changes to tax policy, both in the UK and abroad, bring complex challenges for businesses and their owners, but they also open the door to new opportunities.

“Our team is well placed to help clients across Scotland navigate this evolving landscape.”

In his new position, Tetley will focus on fostering an environment that supports the professional development of team members within Deloitte’s Scottish tax practice.

The company currently has eight tax partners based in Scotland, six of whom began their careers at Deloitte as graduates, and aims to expand the number of tax partners in the near future.

In June, as part of a recent promotion cycle in Scotland, VAT expert Jen Donnachie and tax valuations expert Lyndsay MacGregor were promoted to partner.

“Part of my role will be creating an environment across our Scottish offices where these graduates and all our tax professionals can grow and develop their expertise,” Tetley added.

“As such, my priority will be building strong, capable teams to serve both the local market and the wider national practice.”
