Stephen Van Arsdell has been appointed
chairman and chief executive of Deloitte & Touche, Deloitte’s
audit and enterprise risk services subsidiary in the US.

Van Arsdell, who succeeds Nick Tommasino, was
previously deputy chief executive of Deloitte & Touche with
responsibility for the professional practice network.

Tommasino will become a vice chairman of
Deloitte US and serve as advisory partner to several of Deloitte’s
top clients.

In his new role, Van Arsdell will also serve
as chief quality officer for Deloitte & Touche.

Deloitte US chief executive Barry Salzberg
said he is confident in Van Arsdell’s ability to lead Deloitte
& Touche through the “myriad [of] challenges and opportunities
presented by the economic recovery and regulatory environment

“[Van Arsdell’s] talent, experience and
leadership style will help further the practice’s primary mission
to conduct the highest quality audits,” Salzberg added.

Van Arsdell has more than 35 years of
experience in the profession and has served as the lead client
service partner to some of Deloitte’s most prominent clients across
sectors, including aerospace and defence, manufacturing, financial
services and consumer products.

Van Arsdell has also served as a member and
vice-chairman of the board of directors of Deloitte US.

Prior to joining Deloitte &
Touche, Van Arsdell worked as a member of the technical
research staff at the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB)
and as a technical assistant to the FASB chairman.
