Public Finance by Women (PFW) is the first global organisation for women in public finance focused on promoting equality of opportunity and helping women to develop their careers through mentoring, coaching and independent peer support. PFW has launched its website (www.publicfinancebywomen.org ) and aims to be a strong advocate for raising awareness about the importance of gender equality through thought leadership and research so that it becomes mainstreamed in public finance.

Gillian Fawcett and Barbara Grunewald, co-founders of PFW said: “We are very excited and proud to launch the website for Public Finance by Women (PFW) as this is a first of many steps towards supporting women’s career chances and opportunities in public finance no matter where they are in the world.”

Alongside the website development, PFW has also introduced a Governance Board and International Advisory Group made up of individuals from some 11 countries. The International Advisory Group met recently to discuss challenges and how best to promote gender equality and the positive contribution women can make to spending public money wisely.

Ileana Steccolini, Professor of Accounting & Finance, Essex University and PFW International Advisory Group Member said: “This is a long-awaited, unique global network with an indispensable mission. PFW will represent a unique opportunity to see women’s potential flourish and produce lasting impact on our societies through public finances and services. As a powerful formidable medium, it is going to make a positive difference in many women’s (and men)’s lives.”
