BDO acquires Chiltern

UK firm BDO Stoy Hayward has acquired independent tax business
Chiltern. Chiltern has offices in London, Glasgow and the Isle of
Man and revenue of more than £20 million ($40.8 million) during the
most recent financial year. BDO Stoy Hayward head of national tax
Paul Eagland said Chiltern has built an enviable reputation for
being the leading independent tax consultancy business outside the
main accountancy firms. The new combined tax team would be one of
the most powerful and comprehensive tax service offerings in the
UK, he said.

Moore Stephens appoints director

Gill Spaul has been appointed as European technical
director at Moore Stephens Europe. Spaul previously performed a
similar role for the Moores Rowland International Europe network.
She has also been a technical manager for the International
Federation of Accountants and worked with the International
Auditing and Assurance Standards Board and Moores Rowland UK. Moore
Stephens said the appointment reflected the group’s strategy to
strengthen the infrastructure of the European network and its
intention to be a ‘network’ under the new regulatory
definition.

US firm announces partners

KPMG US announced it has admitted 134 new partners so far in 2007.
The firm’s partnership now totals 1,837. The new partners come from
diverse cultural and professional backgrounds and more than
one-third are women and ethnic minorities, said KPMG’s chairman and
chief executive, Timothy Flynn. The new partners are spread
throughout the various practices. Fifty are in the audit practice,
38 in the advisory practice, 44 in the tax practice and two in
national support services.

Irish graduate levels jump

Deloitte Ireland has announced it will open 230 graduate positions
in 2008, an increase of more than 25 percent on the previous year.
The firm said it has increased its number of graduate positions
consistently during the past five years, since 70 graduates joined
the firm in 2002. The 2008 positions will be available in the
Dublin, Cork and Limerick offices, across all departments including
audit, tax, consulting and financial advisory services.
