Association MSI Global Alliance has appointed
Donal Watkin, formerly deputy executive director of Nexia
International, as chief executive designate.

MSI said the appointment is the first phase of
a planned management transition, which will also see current
chairman Peter Abels step down at the end of the year. Current
chief executive James Mendelssohn will succeed Abels as chairman,
while Watkin will become chief executive responsible for the
day-to-day management of the association.

“These changes have been almost two years in
the planning and should allow for an orderly transition that will
both build on the existing strengths of MSI, whilst at the same
time introducing some fresh blood and some new ideas,” a
spokesperson for MSI said.

Prior to joining MSI, Watkin had worked at
network Nexia International for four years.

Current chief executive James Mendelssohn told
International Accounting Bulletin that once the transition
is complete at the end of the year he will dedicate about a quarter
of his time working as chairman of the association.

“Once the transition is complete at the end of
the year I want to take a step back from the operational side of
running the association and think more about how to position us and
ensure the organisation is well prepared for the challenges ahead,”
he said.
