Former chairman of Grant Thornton South Africa
and member of the network’s board of governors, Leonard Brehm has
died.

Brehm retired in February this year after
being the chairman of the South African firm since 2002. He was
also on the board of governors for Grant Thornton International
from 2001 to 2009.

Grant Thornton International chief executive
Edward Nusbaum said Brehm’s personality made him a “delight” to
work for.

“His kindness and intellect and great
impartiality made him a very popular figure around the global
organisation,” Nusbaum said.

“He was well respected for speaking out on
issues of importance impacting the accounting profession, the
business community, and Africa. We have lost a brilliant mind,
a great leader, a good friend and wonderful human being, and our
thoughts are with his family and friends at this sad time.”
