The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has issued a warning about fraudsters posing as accountancy firm Smith & Williamson.
The regulator says fraudsters are using the name Smith & Williams PLC trading as Smith and Williams Online from an address in Victoria, London, and claiming to be an authorised firm. Notably, the only phone number associated with the fake firm is a mobile number.
A number of email addresses have been associated with the fraudsters: info@smithandwilliamsonline.com, helpdesk@smithandwilliamsonline.com, harryjamila@smithandwilliamsonline.com, harryjamila@sandw-online.com. Two websites have now been blocked: www.smithandwilliamsonline.com, www.sandw-online.com
The true FCA authorised firms, Smith & Williamson Investment Management and Smith & Williamson Investment Services are based in Moorgate in the city of London and have no association with the ‘clone firm’. They are authorised to offer, promote or sell services or products in the UK.
