The Australian Governor-General David Hurley has approved changes to Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand’s Supplemental Royal Charter and By-Laws. The changes were passed by CA ANZ members in a member vote held in May this year.
The Governor-General’s approval allows all of the proposed governance changes, including the nominations, elections and appointments under the new governance structure, to get underway including for Regional Councillor positions in Australia and New Zealand and all positions on the new Overseas Regional Councils for Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and the United Kingdom.
Updates of CA ANZ regulations and the governance manual can now also be completed. The new governance material, structures and processes will be in place by 1 January 2020.
The Supplemental Royal Charter, By-Laws and NZICA Rules changes strengthen CA ANZ's Professional Conduct By-Laws, provide for the establishment of Overseas Regional Councils, provide increased continuity in board appointments by CA ANZ Council, increase flexibility and inclusion of representation and strengthen the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants (NZICA) Rules.
The Governor-General's approval was the final official step of a governance review which began in 2015.
