Andrew Burns appointed as CIPFA Associate Director
Andrew Burns has joined the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) in the part-time advisory role of Associate Director for Local Government.
Having started his career as a finance trainee with Birmingham City Council, Burns qualified as a CIPFA accountant in 1988. In his 35 year career across the UK’s West Midlands, he has held posts with responsibility for social care, public service agreements, property and customer services in addition to finance roles.
Rob Whiteman, CIPFA CEO, said: "Andrew’s broad experience in public services will be an asset to CIPFA’s work across all parts of the public sector.
“At a time when service demand is high, resources are more stretched than ever and the political agenda is dominated by Brexit. Andrew will support us to cast much needed light on domestic policy that’s falling by the wayside.”
Most recently, Burns was Director of Finance and Resources at Staffordshire County Council, where he led the authority’s transformation agenda. As well as being former President of CIPFA, Andrew is also the former Chairman of the Consultative Committee of Accountancy Bodies (CCAB), and past President of the Society of County Treasurers.
